The Daytona Beachcombers Running Club College Scholarship

In its inaugural year, the Daytona Beachcombers Running Club Scholarship Program awarded two $1500 scholarships; one each to a graduating male and female high school student who were members of their school’s cross county and/or track and field teams.

The purpose of the scholarships are to recognize student cross country and/or track and field athletes who are leaders in their school, excel in the classroom, and make positive contributions within the community.  These scholarships were open to all Volusia and Flagler County graduating high school senior runners

Kelsey Dunn and Slater Stitch, both graduates of Warner Christina Academy, were selected as the female and male recipients of the scholarships, respectively.  Kelsey and Slater were recognized at their school's Senior Honors Program on May 17th.

These Scholarships have been made possible through funds raised by Palmer College Paint the Towne 5k held on October 22, 2006.  This race is our club’s signature race and is scheduled this fall, October 21, 2007.  Proceeds from this race will fund the 2008 Scholarship Program.

Best wishes to Kelsey and Slater as they continue their academic and running endeavors.   This fall, Kelsey will be attending Florida Southern College and Slater will be attending Princeton University.

This page is dedicated to the youth in our community.  The Beachcombers would like to recognize young athletes in Track & Field and Cross Country.  We welcome contributions to this page from coaches, parents, students or anyone wishing to recognize our young people from elementary through senior high school.
